Six – Wrap

Read Time:1 Minute, 43 Second

This post is a participation in The Weekly Six Sentence Story Challenge hosted by Denise over at GirlieOnTheEdge

This week’s word is:

Wrap

  • To cover or enclose in paper or material
  • A loose outer garment
  • To finish filming
  • A sandwich in which the filling is rolled in a tortilla

Finish it

The standoff lasts for several minutes with neither side making a move, silence growing louder until the sound of distant air ventilators and the rustling of Rio’s jean jacket grow deafening.

“Damnit,” the woman mutters as she inches toward the corner, working up the nerve to take a peek but ducking pack immediately as something bounces off the wall inches from her eye.

“Sam, I’m not sure they’re really a threat,” Rio says as he nods toward the third BB laying on the ground, “they’re using toy guns.”

“Yeah, right,” Sam says, raising her pistol, fixing her grip, and taking several deep breaths to get the adrenalin flowing, “let’s wrap this up.”

“Wai-” Rio tries to catch Sam’s shoulder but his fingers slide off her back as she turns the corner and fires three shots straight down the hall; one flies overhead, the second ricochets off the wall, and the third strikes the barrier near the exposed barrel of the other’s rifle.

The screams from the end of the hall make Sam freeze where she stands and almost fall off her feet as Rio grabs her shoulder and yanks her back behind cover; “it’s just a kid!”
